IGNOU Address Change and Name Correction Process – IGNOU students can change or correct their address and name in their academic database by following the given instructions. The printed performa for the address change is sent to the students along with the first set of IGNOU Study Material. If a candidate is transferred to another address or if any corrections are needed in the address then they can submit this letter to correct or change the address.
IGNOU Address Change Form
IGNOU has a specific Change Address Request form that the students must fill up. You can get the form at the Samarth Portal of IGNOU. Students must log into the portal to get the Change Request Form and submit it online.
How To Change Address in IGNOU?
You can make changes in address through both online and offline modes. Here are both ways for your convenience.
- Online Mode
If you want to change your postal address online in IGNOU, here is the process to do so.
Step – 1 – Go to the link https://ignou.samarth.edu.in first.
Step – 2 – Provide your login credentials to enter your profile.
Step – 3 – As you enter the profile, click on Services in the left panel.
Step – 4 – Now, scroll down and click on Change Address Request box
Step – 5 – As you Launch the page, click on the Green link provided.
Step – 6 – Now a form will appear that you must fill in with your current address.
Step – 7 – Upload an address proof, and identity proof with the form.
Step – 8 – Submit the details and you will get a notification about the request made.
If somehow you think that you have mentioned the wrong address or do not want the update, you can click Cancel Request which appears on the Notification page after submitting the Change Address form.
After you have updated the request, the university may take about 4 to 6 weeks to process the address and update it on the website.
- Offline Mode:
Students can also submit the Address Change Request form offline through this method.
Step – 1 – Download the offline application form.
Step – 2 – Fill out the form and attach the attested copies of address proof and identity proof.
Step – 3 – Send this form to the address mentioned on the form.

IGNOU Address Change Fees
Students who are working professionals may have to change their location due to their jobs or other reasons. In such a case, they must also make changes in the address at the university to get study materials smoothly. IGNOU does not charge anything for making changes to the address. So, you can conveniently make the required changes in your address to continue with the university conveniently.
IGNOU Address Change Status
Once you have submitted the Address Change Request, you can check your status to see when the address has been updated on the website. Usually, it may take about 4 to 6 weeks for the university to update the address. In the meantime, you can check the status of your request through the Samarth portal from where you have submitted the change request.

IGNOU Name Correction Form
There is no such name correction form online that you can fill up. However, the university provides an offline form for the students to fill up and submit. You can also download the Name Correction Form from this page.
How To Change Name in IGNOU?
While IGNOU allows the students to make changes in their address online, it asks for offline submission of name correction requests.
Step – 1 – Get a name change affidavit form and the name correction form from your IGNOU Regional Centre. You can also collect the affidavit from the Public Notary.
Step – 2 – Fill out the form and then get it attested by the Notary.
Step – 3 – Write an Application for a Name Correction Request to your respective Regional Center.
Step – 4 – Attach necessary attested documents to state your old name such as Aadhar, Passport, or any other Government document.
Step – 5 – You can even submit the form and the attested Government ID proofs along with the name change proof such as a Marriage Certificate.
Step – 6 – Submit all these to the address mentioned on the application form and wait for the update.
IGNOU Name Correction Fees
Usually, IGNOU does not charge any fees if you are applying for name correction before completing your course. However, if you have completed the course and you wish to correct your name now in your mark sheets and other documents.
As per the notification dated 23rd August 2021, the university has decided to take a prescribed fee to make changes in the provisional marksheet, certificate and grade card for correction in name or address. The students have to pay the one of the below fees while applying for the name or address change in IGNOU.
- Rs 500 (On or after 31st Convocation)
- Rs 1500 (Between 1st to 30th Convocation)
Note – It is noted that if the mistake was made by the university then no fees will be charged to the candidates.
IGNOU Name Correction Status
It is quite easy to check the status of your name correction in the IGNOU portal. You can check it on the IGNOU official portal or even in the Samarth portal to see whether your name has been corrected or not. The student is requested to keep checking their IGNOU Admission Status to find the changes for which they had applied.

At the time of applying for the course, Instead of giving full surname i gave only the first letter of my surname in IGNOU application as the space is not sufficient.
Now, when i created my Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) Account, my name as per ABC is correct but in IGNOU data base instead of full surname there is only the first letter of my surname. Hence i am getting a discrepancy in the Samarth Portal while linking my ABC account with IGNOU database.
What to do to correct this? Help me with the procedure.

My name in the Degree certificate is wrong. the mistake was made by the university. I have tried multiple time to correct my name. I have even provided a DD of 1550 for changing my name from Shiasta Parween to Shaista Parween, even if it was not my fault. After that also, it was rectified as Shaista Parveen. Again i have to go through the same procedure and pay again and again as well as delay in my degree. Please suggest the further steps.
