IGNOU Re-Registration for the January 2026 session has officially started. Eligible students can now apply online for their next semester or year through the IGNOU Re-Registration portal.

Latest Update: The Re-registration for the January 2026 session for all ODL and Online programmes is commencing from 1st December 2025, and the last date of Re-registration will be 15th January 2026.

If you missed the previous July 2025 session, you can re-register in the January 2026 session (subject to programme eligibility and availability). Note that this may extend your overall course duration by approximately six months.

What is IGNOU Re-Registration 2026?

IGNOU Re-Registration is the process for existing students to enroll for the next semester or academic year in their ongoing programme. The re-registration process is available only online and is applicable to students enrolled in programmes of more than one year duration.

For the January 2026 session, both Indian and International students can re-register online through the official IGNOU Re-Registration portal.

Why IGNOU Re-Registration is Important

Re-registration is mandatory for continuing your course. Without completing it within the given deadline, your enrollment may lapse, and you could lose your admission.

It ensures:

  • Continuation of your academic journey.
  • Access to study materials and exam registration.
  • Progression to the next semester or year.

If your course is divided into multiple semesters (for example, a 2-year or 3-year programme), you must re-register before each term’s deadline to stay active.

Eligibility for IGNOU Re-Registration 2026

  • Only existing students who are already enrolled in an IGNOU programme can re-register.
  • The course must have a duration of more than one year.
  • The enrolment number (9 or 10 digits) must be valid.
  • You should have cleared or attempted previous assignments/exams (recommended but not compulsory).
  • Your programme must appear on the re-registration portal list.

How to Apply for IGNOU Re-Registration January 2026

Step 1 – Register on the Re-Registration Portal

  1. Visit https://onlinerr.ignou.ac.in
  2. Tick the declaration box and click Proceed for Re-Registration.
  3. Click New Registration.
  4. Select your programme, enter your name, enrolment number, and captcha.
  5. Submit to complete registration.

Step 2 – Login to Your Account

  1. Visit the same portal.
  2. Enter your enrolment number, password, and captcha.
  3. Click Login.

Step 3 – Fill Out the Re-Registration Form

  1. Select your programme (e.g., BAG, BCOMG, MEG, etc.).
  2. Choose your next semester/year courses.
  3. Select whether you want study materials in printed or digital form.
  4. Click Submit Application.
  5. Pay your programme fee online through the payment gateway.
  6. Download and print your confirmation slip for future reference.

Important: Once the form is submitted, no changes can be made online.

IGNOU Re-Registration Fees 2026

There is no separate re-registration fee like the initial ₹300 paid during fresh admission. Students must pay only the semester or annual programme fee as per their course structure.

If submitted after the due date, a late fee of ₹200 applies (valid till 30th September 2025).
